BOPARC CAPITAL PROJECTS
BOPARC has several capital improvement projects in various phases of planning, design, development and construction. The facilities, equipment and spaces impacted by these improvements are in the age range of 20 to 60+ years. Many of these projects are now possible due to the City of Morgantown's decision to invest in recreational services and facilities through a portion of the City's sales tax revenue. This has allowed BOPARC to engage in upgrades and improvements within our system for the betterment of the Morgantown community. The report below should be considered a living document and is modified on a periodic basis with project initiatives and updates.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT SERVICE DISRUPTIONS
As we work to improve community recreational facilities and spaces, there may be service interruptions throughout the system. While we apologize for any inconvenience that these disruptions might cause, we ask for your patience and understanding. These instances are for the safety and security of our patrons, staff, contractors and the community as a whole. We strive to make any necessary disruptions as brief as possible, given whatever circumstances dictate the schedule of work. Any significant disruptions that are upcoming or in progress can be reviewed below:
UPPER MARILLA PARK: The Marilla Pool Improvement Project and pool re-location is in progress. We expect traffic detours in upper Marilla Park throughout the bulk of the project, due to the relocation of the roadway and the security and safety of contract workers and park patrons. Certain areas around the construction site will be fenced off for public safety and security purposes during construction. We apologize for any inconvenience to our patrons and thank you for your patience as we work to improve our public facilities for the community. The new Marilla Pool facility is expected to be open for the season in 2025.
LOWER MARILLA PARK: BOPARC is in the planning and bonding process for upgrades to lower Marilla Park, including new tennis, pickleball, basketball courts, upgrades to the skate park and Marilla Center. We anticipate access to lower Marilla Park being impacted from early 2025 through Fall of 2025. During this time period, amenities in this area will be unavailable due to these major upgrades. We will be updating this particular service disruption as the project planning progresses and we have exact dates of this disruption in place.
MARILLA #2 PLAYGROUND: There will be a disruption of playground services at Marilla #2 Playground during a portion of the upper Marilla Park work listed above. Contractor will be removing old playground equipment in order for new equipment to be installed by BOPARC at a later date. Due to the scale of the overall project, this equipment removal is necessary towards the beginning of the Marilla Pool Improvement project, as the playground area is within the safety zone. This disruption cannot be avoided and will also begin within the late January/early February timeframe. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and invite our patrons to visit one of our larger play spaces in other community parks, including Krepps Park, Jack Roberts Park, Dorsey's Knob Park, Woodburn Park and the Waterfront Web along the Caperton Rail-Trail.
PAVILIONS: We anticipate upgrades to both Marilla and Krepps Pavilions during 2025. Due to the extensive nature of these upgrades, both pavilions will be unavailable for rental while they are being demolished and replaced. Please check back for exact dates of disruption of these services as we move into the new year.
KREPPS ATHLETIC COURTS: The project upgrades to Krepps Athletic Courts are in progress and expected to continue into September. We appreciate everyone's patience while the contractors work on remaining items. Please remember that weather is a factor in the progress and completion of this project due to the materials and extensive nature of the upgrades. The courts will be unavailable for use during this time. We encourage our patrons to utilize Marilla Courts in the interim and thank you for your understanding as we work to improve your community parks.
KREPPS DOG PARK: (Krepps Dog Park is Now COMPLETE AND RE-OPENED ON JULY 9TH) Additional improvements to Krepps Dog Park will cause service interruptions at that park. Project includes the removal of standing, dead trees and stumps, upgrades to the entrance area, drainage improvements to alleviate damage from run-off and standing water, updated amenities, grading/seed/mulch and other general clean-up of the area. The estimated closure for the park is early February 2024 until August 2024. The estimated outage allows for seed and mulch to take hold, which will assist with ensuring that the upgrades are successful. We appreciate your understanding as we work to improve your community parks. Please visit Stanley's Spot Dog Park on the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail during this closure.
PAUL PRESERVE PARK: (Walking Track is Now COMPLETE) BOPARC has recently contracted for the establishment of the walking track around the perimeter of Paul Preserve Park. This enhancement was first envisioned in the original park planning map in 2014 and is finally coming to life! As a safety measure and to ensure that the project moves along as quickly as possible, there will need to be closures in the park itself.
