June 8-12 Abstract Ceramics Project
Instructor: Kelsea O'Malley
Campers will explore abstract sculpture while building foundational ceramics skills. Students will begin by creating a traditional form—such as a pot, vase, or bowl—using pinch, coil, and slab techniques, then transform it into a fully original, abstract work of art.
Through guided prompts and creative exploration, campers will experiment with shape, storytelling, and design. While pieces dry and are prepared for kiln firing, students will expand their work using mixed media—painting backgrounds, creating sculptural elements, and adding texture and color through both 2D and 3D approaches. Projects will be glazed, kiln-fired, and available for pickup at a later date, giving campers a lasting, one-of-a-kind piece to take home.
June 22-26: Fairy Houses
Instructor: Kelsea O'Malley
Campers will design and build their own whimsical fairy houses using foundational ceramics techniques like slab and coil construction. Each student will create a base structure, then personalize it into a unique fantasy dwelling—whether a fairy home, bug house, squirrel retreat, or imaginative creation of their own.
While pieces dry and are prepared for kiln firing, campers will expand their projects with mixed media—designing roofs, landscapes, and decorative elements using natural and repurposed materials. Final pieces will be assembled after firing, combining ceramic and mixed-media components into one-of-a-kind works of art. This camp encourages creativity, storytelling, and hands-on exploration while introducing essential ceramics skills.
