 FULL TIME:
Full time positions are classified as exempt or non-exempt. All FT positions include a benefit package including health care, vision, dental, life insurance, PERS retirement and paid time off. Salary varies by position, please review individual position postings for more information.



 

SEASONAL:
Seasonal positions are designated for a specific season or facility and typically last 7 months of less. Recreation seasonal positions are classified as exempt in the state of WV and are permitted to work 40hours plus. Seasonal positions do not include benefits. Hours and rate of pay vary by position, please see individual position postings for more information.

Clay Instructor

Location: Wiles Hill Community Center, 287 Eureka Drive
Employment Type: Compensation is structured under a percentage-based model. Instructors receive 70% of the total class fees collected, less than any BOPARC-incurred costs, including but not limited to supplies or materials required for program delivery.
Position Overview
BOPARC is seeking a skilled Clay Instructor to lead ceramics programming for community members of all ages. This role requires proficiency in both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, as well as a working knowledge of kilns, glazes, and firing processes. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong instructional capabilities, clear communication skills, and an ability to support participants in a welcoming community-centered environment.
Responsibilities
  • Teach ceramics classes for youth, adults, and multigenerational groups.
  • Provide instruction in hand-building, wheel-throwing, and foundational ceramic techniques.
  • Work cooperatively with the Manager of Arts & Wellness on kiln usage and upkeep including cleaning, loading, unloading, and firing schedule. 
  • Manage and properly use clay, glazes, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive studio environment aligned with BOPARC standards and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, staff, and community members.
  • Assist with class setup, cleanup, and materials management as required.
  • Be available for both daytime and evening class offerings. Possible weekend availability.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in hand-building and wheel-throwing required.
  • Working knowledge of kilns, glazes, and firing practices required.
  • Minimum BFA with a concentration in Ceramics preferred or equivalent training and experience.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred, especially in community or educational settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with participants of all ages, and abilities.
