Notes from this week's meeting as submitted by David Light/Melissa Burch:
Discussion of the work to be done before winter sets in included that WPTAC will be going ahead with the Blue Loop re-routes. Expect to see the markers move over the weekend. We will also be adding some guide rocks and logs to intersections to encourage cyclists to follow the new route. Dave met with several committee members at the area over the past couple of weeks and others have toured by themselves. The re-routing was approved by the BOPARC Board at the October meeting. In light of the discussion at that meeting, Dave and Colin worked to minimize the approved re-routes even further and as a result minimize impact and/or concerns. We will be looking at the steep approach to "JR's" bridge (one near hockey rink lot) in an attempt reduce erosion and trail widening. Please take a look and offer suggestions at the next meeting. We will be installing culverts at several locations on the Blue Loop adjacent to Mississippi. These areas have been visited several times and there is quite a bit of water run-off there. Melissa has processed a work order with the hopeful date of work being next Tuesday. We are planning on making an information card with rules of the trail and contact information for BOPARC and WPTAC. Dave will pass around a draft in the next week or two. We will be ordering signs to improve safety at some of the trail crossings and clearing the sight lines at a couple of these intersections. The group also agreed to make WPTAC a little more formal with by-laws and membership. This is going to be discussed further at the next meeting. Sharon brought to everyone's attention an incident that happened last week on the upper side of the trail system in which a group of three individuals apparently accosted a runner. We discussed the benefits of user presence in the trail system as a deterrent to criminal behavior. The next meeting is tentatively set for Dec. 9th at 6 PM at Marilla Center. Look for confirmation email from Melissa. If you would like to help out with any of the work to be done in the next few weeks, please contact Dave Light.
