Intro to Stained Glass Workshop
Intro to Stained Glass
This 6-week workshop will introduce participants to working with glass starting with an explanation of the medium and progressing through the basics of cutting, nipping, and grinding glass. The class will begin practicing on easy-to-handle glass, then learn to cut more difficult textured glass.
The first half of the workshop will focus on the technique of a glass on glass stained glass window. Participants will design and prepare a pattern for a 10X12 inch window on plate glass and will be able to select glass from the studio’s extensive collection. They will then cut individual pieces and learn how to adhere glass to glass and finish by grouting in black.
The second half of the workshop will focus on glass mosaic techniques. Participants will be able to design either a personal shaped mosaic support or will work on a traditional square or rectangular support. Proper tesserae adhering and finishing will be covered. If time allows participants will be able to create fused glass pieces to be used as tesserae. This program is designed for beginners.
